Our Story
Compass Abroad was born from a straightforward observation: millions of Canadians dream of owning property in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Portugal, and the Caribbean — but the resources to help them do it correctly, as Canadians, simply didn’t exist.
The American buyer has dozens of platforms catering to their needs. The Canadian buyer has Google, a stack of contradictory forum posts, and a local accountant who’s never heard of a fideicomiso. The legal structures are different. The tax obligations are different. The financing approaches are different. And the agents who understand these Canadian-specific nuances are hard to find.
We built Compass Abroad to close that gap. Our platform connects Canadian buyers with carefully vetted local real estate professionals who have a track record of working with Canadians — and we wrap that matchmaking with the educational resources buyers need to make informed decisions: T1135 filing obligations, HELOC strategies, fideicomiso explained, the apostille requirement, closing cost breakdowns by country.
